This was our first time photographing a Cotton Factory Wedding, and we loved it!
The Cotton Factory is a former industrial building, build in 1900, located in the heart of Hamilton. It was once used as a cotton mill, but today it is a creative industries complex housing a number of workshops, galleries, office spaces, studios, and more. On the top floor, they have a huge open space that is used for various events, including weddings. The space is bright, filled with natural light, and has been brought back to life in a way that has allowed the building to keep much of it’s charm and character.
This was literally the perfect space for Sarah & Mike to say their vows. Sarah is a dancer and has performed at The Cotton Factory many times of the past few years and Michael’s great-grandmother worked at The Cotton Factory (then the Imperial Cotton Centre) when she first moved to Canada… so this was a truly meaningful place for the two of them. They hired us to photograph only the ceremony itself as well as a few photos of the two of them following the ceremony.
Sarah & Mike have been together since high school and had been waiting a really long time for this day. You could just feel the excitement and the love within the room. The vibe was super relaxed, with a few really awesome moments when the whole room broke into laughter.
Our favourite part was the ring warming ceremony. We had never seen one before! A ring warming ceremony is “when you give your loved ones the opportunity to hold and imbue your wedding bands with a wish, blessing or prayer for your marriage. By the time your rings make it on to your fingers they will be saturated with the love of your friends and family.”. The rings went around the room in a wooden box, to each and every guest. It was really beautiful.
We wish Sarah & Mike all the best in their life together. There is no doubt that these two will make it to the very end together, after all, they are still crazy in love after being together for 10 years!
Once upon a Tompa…
